About Tamang Heritage
The area we will be traveling in is called the Langtang region. This trip is a mix of mountain adventure and Himalayan culture. The Tamang Heritage on the Langtang Trek is without a doubt an exciting trekking destination into the spectacular Himalayas. The Langtang region is wild with an idyllic rural landscape and is rich with the cultural heritage of ethnic Nepalese Tamang people. Despite being just a few hours' drives from Kathmandu, this trek takes you off the beaten track and deep into the rural and rugged mountains, high passes and amazing mountain views and landscape dotted with chortens, stupas and prayer flags flapping in the wind. This allows every trekker to marvel at why the country is called a "walker's paradise". This is truly a land of magic, meditation, and shamanism. Langtang is also the region of ancient Tibetan monasteries, rhododendron and bamboo forests, majestic waterfalls, snow-capped Himalayas, and many sacred lakes, or what the devout practitioners call the "Kunda".
About Gosaikunda Lake
Gosaikunda Lakes lies to the north of Kathmandu. The Gosaikunda loop is a quite remote and thinly populated area. Gosaikunda, a glacier lake, is the most famous one with several other glacial lakes adjoining it. Thousands of Hindu pilgrims visit the lakes during the full- moon festival in August. The story that the Hindu people believe is that one of the Supreme Hindu Gods, Lord Shiva was intoxicated by drinking a massive amount of poison and then felt thirsty, so he hit the stone with his trident, which created the lakes. In the same place Lake Gosaikunda originates, the Hindu people believe that the image of Lord Shiva can be seen in the middle surface of the water. The lake is also sacred to Buddhists. Pilgrims that journey to the lake believe that taking a dip into the lake will clean all their sins.
This is a journey with numerous highlights and boasts stunning views of Ganesh Himal, Manaslu and Annapurna massif mountains as far as you can see. The Tamang and Sherpa people living here physically and culturally resemble that of the Tibetan people. Their unique lifestyle is still thriving under their traditional attitudes and way of life and their ancestors are believed to have descended from Tibet many centuries ago. Abundant wildlife, intense forest teeming with wildflowers and animal species, add interest to this trek for nature lovers.
