About Multi Rivers Expedition on Sun Kosi and Tamur

Lower Bhote Kosi

This river originates in Tibet. The lower Bhote Kosi River is a lovely class 2-3+ section of whitewater flowing through a beautiful deep valley. Put in below the dam where the Upper Bhote Kosi finishes and enjoy fun bouncy rapids and a small gorge. Paddle past small villages, rice paddies, and appreciate this wonderful environment. After a couple of hours padling you will reach the take out.

Balephi Khola

This river is one of the smaller tributaries of the Sun Kosi and is a lovely tight boulder strewn river with crystal clear water.

The river rises on the southern slopes of a mountain called “Dorje Lakpa”, at 6990 metres high. You will enjoy nice continuous white water with class 3 and 4 rapids all the way down to the confluence of the Sun Kosi River.

Paddle the Balephi Khola river taking in stunning views of Everest on a clear day. The Balephi Khola is one of the smaller tributaries of the Sun Kosi and is a lovely tight boulder strewn river with crystal clear water. We will paddle this lovely jewel of a river down into the Sun Kosi. Take out after fantastic days paddling and drive back to Kathmandu in a private bus approximately 3 and half hrs. If you are looking for longer river trips or if there are any other activities we can organise that for you, you just need talk to our friendly staff in our Thamel office.

Sun Kosi River (River of Gold)

The Sun Kosi is the longest trip in river miles offered in Nepal and is rated as one of the top ten river expeditions in the world.

Starting near the Tibetan border and draining off the Eastern Himalayas all the way to the sacred Ganges River in India, this river offers big volume whitewater. A journey down this “river of gold” impresses any rafting or kayaking enthusiast with relaxing canyons, refreshing waterfalls, bat caves, interesting temples, beautiful white sandy beaches for setting up camp and of course a great variety of whitewater.

If you are looking for a long river expedition with a nice variety of scenery and access to villages along the way, then the “river of gold” is a classic choice. AHN also offer lots of trip with combinations and durations with this trip so please ask our friendly office staff.

We also offer Sun Kosi river journeys for beginner to intermediate kayakers. If you are interested to improve your paddling skill from grade 1 up to be able to paddle to paddle grade 3+ then this one is for you. This river has a few grade five rapids as well but those rapids are one or few days from the end of the trip which means the first four days of the river trip is just grades to 1 to 3. When we get to the grade four or five rapids you will jump on the raft to ride the waves and then the river changes to flat water and you can get back in your kayak.

We can do the Sun Kosi expedition either from 7 days to 10 days and this depends on which season and how many days participants want to paddle for.

**there is option to fly back from Biratnagar to Kathmandu if you don’t want to drive 15 hours overnight bus journey, flight time is 40 minutes and the cost is around $180 USD but this all depends on the seasonal cost

**Adventure Hub Nepal can organise for you to get Pokhara as well, just talk to our friendly staff. (tourist, local or private bus)

Tamur River

TIPPING AND KITTY

Although the culture of tipping may not be part or your own culture, it is nonetheless part of the culture in this area of world and it is often the way some people supplement their earnings. Tipping has also become an accepted part of tourism culture in the region. On our trips your trip leader can advise you on this matter, however as a guideline we would recommend a tip of 5-8%. If the service has been satisfactory, a tip is always appreciated with ……with a smile!

To protect you from the sometimes seemingly endless soliciting of tips, we suggest you discuss with your trip leader about setting up a tipping kitty whereby everybody contributes an equal amount (this amount can vary from trip to trip, but a good approximate is US $6 per person per day) your trip leader can then distributes tips along the way to local guides, and porters, etc. and keeps a record of all money spent. Please note that this kitty is not designed to provide a tip for your leader.

TIPPING YOUR LEADER

It is customary to tip your tour leader at the end of the trip, if you are happy with his/her service. A minimum tip of US $ 5 per day from each member of the group is the amount expected.

Price from US$ 1450
