Sun Kosi River (River of Gold)
The Sun Kosi is the longest trip in river miles offered in Nepal and is rated as one of the top ten river expeditions in the world.
Starting near the Tibetan border and draining off the Eastern Himalayas all the way to the sacred Ganges River in India, this river offers big volume whitewater. A journey down this “river of gold” impresses any rafting or kayaking enthusiast with relaxing canyons, refreshing waterfalls, bat caves, interesting temples, beautiful white sandy beaches for setting up camp and of course a great variety of whitewater.
If you are looking for a long river expedition with a nice variety of scenery and access to villages along the way, then the “river of gold” is a classic choice. AHN also offer lots of trip with combinations and durations with this trip so please ask our friendly office staff.
We also offer Sun Kosi river journeys for beginner to intermediate kayakers. If you are interested to improve your paddling skill from grade 1 up to be able to paddle to paddle grade 3+ then this one is for you. This river has a few grade five rapids as well but those rapids are one or few days from the end of the trip which means the first four days of the river trip is just grades to 1 to 3. When we get to the grade four or five rapids you will jump on the raft to ride the waves and then the river changes to flat water and you can get back in your kayak.
We can do the Sun Kosi expedition either from 7 days to 10 days and this depends on which season and how many days participants want to paddle for.
**there is option to fly back from Biratnagar to Kathmandu if you don’t want to drive 15 hours overnight bus journey, flight time is 40 minutes and the cost is around $180 USD but this all depends on the seasonal cost
**Adventure Hub Nepal can organise for you to get Pokhara as well, just talk to our friendly staff. (tourist, local or private bus)
Tamur River
We will have a traditional Nepalese dhal bhat lunch and then pack our bus and drive up to the put in of the Tamur river which is approximately 2 hrs drive. After unloading our gear at the put in at Mulghat we will paddle a couple of kilometres to a lovely river beach where we can relax and enjoy the new river environment. The Tamur River drains from Mt. Kanchenjunga which is the third highest peak in the world.
