About Langtang, Gosaikunda, Sundarijal Trek

This is a super introduction to Langtang trekking in Nepal among some of the most beautiful scenery in the whole country. Lying 30 km north of Kathmandu, Helambu is the most accessible trekking region in Nepal. The Langtang & Helumbu trek starts from Syabrubensi after driving 150 km from Kathmandu. The trail gradually ascends upstream along the Bhote Kosi river, passing through the forests of the Langtang valley to the alpine meadows and yak pastures around Kyangjin. After an ascent of Kyangjin Ri [4350m.], from where the 360 degree mountain views are truly spectacular, the trail retraces to Syabru. From here we further trek to the sacred Gosainkund lake situated at an elevation of 4336 meters and to Kathmandu via the lovely Helambu region.
This Langtang & Helumbu trek can be done any time of the year except during monsoon.

Itinerary

Dhunche is the center of this area .You are heading north out of Kathmandu driving through scenic foothills and ridgeline vistas to Dhunche or Syaprubesi. While passing along the road on the bank of the Trishuli River you catch a glimpse of Ganesh Himal.

Our first days walk with a climb for a few hours, then onto a gradual path through terraced farms and scattered villages. The trail continues reaching a river side where the trail meets with a few teahouses and lodges. After a short rest here walk uphill through serene forested areas of tall rhododendron, upstream to Lama hotel for overnight stay.

After a pleasant breakfast with the sounds of nature, the walk leads into a river gorge within dense woodland passing a few small settlements and farms, the mid day walk reaches a nice place at Ghoretabla, the name means "Horse-Stable" in Nepali. After the lunch stop we will continue with our afternoon walk which leads to our overnight destination at Langtang village with Bhotia’s and Tamang people, the native of Langtang region for hundreds of years. (The villages was completely destroyed from the avalanche and huge earthquakes of 25th April & 12th May 2015 and people are slowly returning back to every day normal life.)

It will be a short walk today to Kyanjin Gompa few hours as the walk enters a wide valley after leaving the tree lines and river gorge, morning walk follows a short steep hill where tree lines declines for short bushes of azalea (bush rhododendron), juniper and prickly burberry bushes, finally walk enters a wide path around glacial valley with splendid scenery of snow-capped mountains of Dorji Lakpa, Langtang Lirung, Tserko ri, Langshsisa and Naya Kanga or Ganja la peak. After a wonderful scenic walk ending at Kyanjin Gompa, a beautiful wide beautiful valley and close views of Langtang Lirung glacier, ice fall just next to the lodges of Kyanjin with an old small monastery located on a rocky moraine ridge top, Langtang valley a huge grazing areas for Yaks, and the place has a Yak Cheese Factory.

With wonderful view and memorie with enjoyable time at Kyanjin Gompa around Langtang valley, after breakfast will walk easier on downhill path most of the way through Langtang village and Ghoretablea, following Langtang Khola enjoying walks back into cool forest and then back at Lama Hotel stay overnight.

Today is our last day walk of this fabulous journey , leading downhill with few ups on the same route heading back at Syabubesi after crossing a suspension bridge and then reaching at the main road head and village of Syabrubesi and overnight stay.

Trail will climbing up to Dimsa village and the trial continues less steeply, through rhododendron, hemlock and Oak forests to Shin Gompa. On your trek you will see fantastic views of Langtang Himala and langtang valley. Shin Gompa is another popular place for Cheese making overnight stay.

Trail ascends smoothly through rhododendron covered point to the top of the rim and through a forested area. The area in-between Sin Gompa and Laurebina Yak is a sanctuary for the red panda, an endangered species that the Nepalese call cat bear. You return to the ridge path and climb a wider route through alpine country to arrive at a Gosainkunda stay overnight.

From Gosai Kunda Lake will make several up and down across moraines, then makes a final ascent to Tharepati observing the fine scenery along the path. Afternoon, hike to the view point to explore the whole Helambu village as well as the famous boarder Himalayas including sisapangma himal (Above 8000m) stay overnight.Gosai Kunda Lake to Tharepati ( 3610m/11840ft). O/n at mountain Lodge.

From Tharepati through forests, to Magen Goth (3420m) and to Panghu. The trail descends through rhododendron forest observing the view of beautiful and glittering peaks on its way to Khutumsang (2450m) to delightful hill village of Gul Bhanjyang stay overnight

Continues along the forested ridge climbing to Thodang Betini (2260m) and to Chipling (2170m). Making a very steep descent the trail heads to Pati Bhanjyang (1860m), a Brahman and Chhetri village. Then the trail continue to Chisapani where you can see the mountain views and the sunrise on the Himalayas stay.

From Chisapani the route goes forward through the forest of oak and rhododendron, and brings you to Borlang Bhanjyang (2440m) After a while you will get to the Army check post where your Shivapuri entrance permit is checked, then to Mulkharka (1750m) from here  you will have a spectacular view of Kathmandu valley. Descending through the forest you will reach to Sundarijal, Then drive back to Kathamndu
